Nirenberg Campaign Congratulates Winners of Democratic Primary
Says the November election will offer voters a clear choice
ALEXANDRIA, VA - Darryl Nirenberg, Republican Candidate for Alexandria City Council, today congratulated the winners of Tuesday’s Democratic Primary.
“I have learned that running for office is not easy. I imagine it must have been particularly challenging for the Democratic candidates who, for the most part, had to stand up and run campaigns during a period of only a matter of weeks and in the midst of a pandemic. My cap’s off to all 13 candidates, and especially to the six largest vote-getters.
“The results of Tuesday’s primary means voters in November will have a clear choice --
“Do voters want more divisive policies like adult housing on school grounds, road diets, and overriding the school board to remove school resources officers -- or do they want a Council focused on issues directly related to improving the quality of life for all Alexandria residents?
“Do they want three more years of 100% one party control, or do they want to restore some checks and balances in the process?”
Nirenberg is the sole Republican nominee. He recently announced that he outraised all 13 Democratic candidates in the most recent reporting period. He will face Democratic incumbents Amy Jackson, John Chapman, Canek Aguirre, and newcomers Sarah Bagley, Alyia Gaskins and Kirk McPike in November with the top six vote getters being elected to Council. Two independent candidates have filed as well.
